St Thomas' Church (directions) is a large urban building originally opened in 1830 to serve the local industry that was springing up in Brampton on the west side of Chesterfield. There have been several alterations and additions since.
Today the church has a large, light airy nave with chairs which can be moved into different configurations. The ceiling is of special interest. The chancel has Victorian choir stalls and a fine wind organ. The acoustics are particularly good and the church is often used for concerts and drama productions.
There are a number of other rooms which are used for children's activities and other activities and events, both Christian and secular, a kitchen and toilets.
Behind the church is the St Thomas' Centre with a large hall, meeting rooms and a cafe.
A war memorial is in the grounds at the front of the church dedicated to the men of Brampton who lost their lives, the majority of whom were members of the Sherwood Foresters.
