On Sunday night (10.07.05), Cyfa had a talent show. Acts included Queen, Bon Jovi, The Orange Neons, Stilt Walking, Tamborine Juggling, Clarinet Playing and many other crazy inventions. Great fun was had by all and Ben's Clarinet, The Orange Neons and Queen were asked to play an encore. In the past term Cyfa have been looking at the community, ways of reaching out to it and ways of being involved with it. Over the summer we hope to get involved with some community projects in and around the Brampton area. The youth band often gets involved with providing worship for the 11am and 6:30pm services on Sunday and is currently practicing songs to be played during times of worship at this year's holiday club. As well as providing music some of us are taking part in the daily drama which is used to illustrate the daily Bible passage in a way which the younger children find easier to connect with. Throughout the week a number of us will play supporting roles as group helpers, it is great to see the younger children of the church getting involved and sharing the Gospel message with them. On Sunday's apart from taking part in the band some of us help out at the creche looking after the very small people of the congregation. Some of us take turns on the rotas for PowerPoint and sound at the services and enjoy getting involved as much as we can. In the past members of Cyfa have been involved with prayer ministry and have lead complete Youth Services. Cyfa is not just about being a Sunday Christian nor is it isolated from the rest of Chesterfield. On Tuesday's there is a Bible study evening from 19:30 to 21:30 at 10 Quarry Lane. Titled Rapture it has been running for a number of year's and aims to provide a house group type activity for the youth of the Church. This group is peer lead to give it a different view point to Cyfa which meets on Sunday nights. As well as being a Bible study it often takes the form of an open discussion, a question and answer session or a worship evening. Prayer, worship and fellowship are all important in the weekly meetings. As some of us have grown older and have moved away to university and other activities an 18-25 group has been set up on Monday evenings. This takes a simliar role to Rapture and also meets at 10 Quarry Lane starting at 19:30. This group is designed to make the Bible study to those of us who are older and also be open to those who return from university in the holidays. So as not to get into the thinking that we're the only under 18's in the Christian faith we try to get involved with other youth groups as much as possible. Last year this included amongst other things, going to a BBQ at the Bishop's house and going away for the weekend. The the Pure inter church youth trip to the beach on Saturday 25th of June was a great success. After the cloudy start, the weather brightened up and great fun was had by all. Some took part in surfing, swimming, Danish Longball, football, rounders and wide games. We had a beach BBQ by the master himself Mike Barnsley and got to know alot of new people. It was really good because many of the people from other youth groups go to the same schools as we do and we didn't know they were Christians. Watch this space for details of the next Pure event! As with most people Cyfa enjoy their holidays and this year some of us went to Spring Harvest and many of us went to Wales for a weekend retreat. A number of Cyfa have already booked to go back to Spring Harvest next year after this year's experiences. One of us may even appear on Channel 4 in the Autumn in a series about world religions. This came about when a film crew visited a 29th Chapter gig one night at Spring Harvest and asked us our views on the event. As well as going to Spring Harvest for personal reasons some of Cyfa worked with the young children at the event in Minehead and Skegness. Many of us in Cyfa have a desire to do mission work and to help out on Christian holidays. In 2003 two members of Cyfa joined a Church Army mission to Latvia. This involved spreading the gospel message through drama, puppetry and balloon modeling. Last year one of us took a gap year before university to go to Africa on mission for a year. Currently we have a member working with the church in Uruguay. If you want to find out more or have any questions about Cyfa please fell free come ask any of us. We don't bite, honest!
