Resignation of the Rector

Last Sunday, 23rd September, we heard from our Rector, David Mouncer that he has offered his resgination as Rector of our Parish to the Bishop of Derby, and our Wardens, due to his serious health problems. He will be leaving us on 4th November.

The family will be staying in Chesterfield, moving to Walton, where the Diocese is buying a property and from where David will, in due course, begin a new teaching ministry within the Diocese. In order to do this, he will be licenced as a minister at our sister parish, St John's, Walton.

Only after David has left can steps be taken to invite candidates to be considered for the role of Rector. It is hoped that the interregnum this time will be of a shorter duration than it was 5 years ago.

David asked us to pray for him and for Lisa and the children, as they prepare to move house and church.

Please can we also pray for everyone involved in leading St Thomas' forward in the coming months -
  • Bishop Alistair,
  • Karen Riley and Bernard Blanksby, our Church Wardens,
  • Anne and Heather in the Church Office as they bear the brunt of the administration during the interregnum,
  • Dawn and Gemma in their respective roles,
  • Church family members who prepare and lead our Sunday services,
  • Mission & Ministry team leaders,
  • the PCC
  • ourselves - that we may step up to the mark in our prayers, our words and our actions.

Lord God, we thank you for the privilege of having enjoyed times with the Mouncers and we ask your special blessing on them as they walk with You in a new place. Amen.
