One thousand days of prayer is a prayer initiative that will encourage every member of St Thomas' to learn to pray at a deeper level than ever before. For 2 years, 8 months and 26 days we as a church are going on a prayer adventure that will: -Form the foundation of all we do as a church -Teach us about the power of persistant prayer -Transform our spiritual DNA -Saturate our future in the will of God In the course of our 1000 days we will learn about how to pray together in the power of the Spirit. St Thomas’ is a busy church, we do lots of things, but unless they are rooted in the will of God we waste our energies. Prayer will be the foundation we put down to ensure that all we do has the greatest spiritual impact in our community. Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labour in vain. –Psalm 127:1 We will learn about how to recover lost ground through spiritual warfare and how to nurture all that is within us that calls out for God’s kingdom to come. Let the bells ring! A more open church will create new possibilities for engagement with our local community. We will ring our church bell to tell Brampton that they are being prayed for. Those not able to be in church physically can picture themselves praying alongside those who are. Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. –James 5:13a We live in a broken society filled with hurting people. Those in the life of the church are not exempt from the brokenness that comes from living in a fallen world. Healing comes from knowing the power of Christ at work in our lives. Through One Thousand Days of Prayer we will expose ourselves, our church, our community and ultimately the world to God’s renewing power. As we pray together and realise at a deeper level that prayer is not a means to an end but rather an end in itself our relationship with God and with one another will be drawn closer together. Before the first spade goes into the ground until the centre is fully established you should pray. Saturate every stone in prayer so they can be truly living stones. Our new Parish Centre will be a significant development for us. The direction in which we put this centre to use will define the next chapter in the life of our church. It is vital that as we move to the physical building of our new facility the spiritual foundations for it are firmly laid. One Thousand Days of Prayer will be a key vehicle in doing this. You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. -1 Peter 2:5 Listen to the Rector's introduction here Sugested Prayer Topics
